They multiply!!!
« on: May 04, 2007, 07:17:56 PM »
I must be nuts! Look what I done did!  I'm in the middle of selling one house and buying another, and I go and adopt 2 more Papillons.  I couldn't resist!  They were local, and they are sweeties!  All four get along great!  But a couple of them sure enjoy barking at the cats - a LOT!  We're working on that.  And buddy (the puppy) is requiring a bit of extra attention...  He's always been the jealous type, and 2 more to share us with doesn't help that much.. lol.

The two on the right are the new ones.

Left to right: Georgie, Buddy, Raphael and Roselle.

Somehow I can't get pictures of the dogs without the eyes doing that.  I have the red eye set on the flash, and it only does it with the animals, not humans. hmmmmm.

Then there were four? One, two, three, four. Yep, I am counting right... :D

Oh, my! You have gotten a house full of fur now, Barb!  ;D

They are just gorgeous! How is Georgie acting toward you now? Have you turned him into a lap baby yet? Is he still shying away?

I know he is having a blast with all the new playmates!

Are they potty trained? I can't believe you did that, but I can see why! They are beautiful...

Guess you just had to have your own pack!  Those little guys/gal are adorable.

You are planning on having some room for these guys so it's not like you won't have the room.

I can see why you would want them.  From what you told us about Georgie and all the work you have put into rescuing him, I bet having some more like him helped that along too.

Were Raphael and Roselle rescue dogs like Georgie?

They are from the same rescue organization, Jim, but a totally different situation. These two were well loved and cared for. Their owner lost her job, was losing her house, and just couldn't afford to take care of them anymore. Rather than give them to just anyone (or the shelter), she surrendered them to the rescue organization knowing they would make sure they would stay together and the home they went to would be one where they would be loved and taken care of. These two have absolutely no behavioral issues. They are slightly overweight, we will work on that. And I don't think they've ever been around cats before. They are quickly learning to not bark at them so much. And best of all.... they are already fully housebroken!!!!  ;D

Diana, Buddy is the puppy, and jealous as can be (he's used being the only lap dog), yet loving having the other dogs to play with. Still, when it comes time to curl up for a nap, he curls up with Georgie (or in my lap).

Georgie still doesn't willingly let us pick him up. Upon occasion I can pet him, but he is very nervous when I do. But if I'm sitting or laying on the couch he will curl up right next to me or even on me sometimes, as long as I don't reach for him. And when sitting at the PC, he will be at my feet. Georgie is never far away from me - by his choice.  He sees all the other dogs getting petted and loved on. He runs right up to us and jumps on us with the rest of them, but backs away if you reach for him. But now he has this look like "I want it too"... so I think it won't be long before he finally breaks that last fear... with me at least.

By the way Jim, the biggest one is 8 lbs (and overweight). Even with four of them, you really don't need much room... lol.

What awesome dogs, Barb! I had to look twice at Georgie, cuz your pic makes it look like he has an extra paw, hanging onto the fence!

I think they all look pretty close to the same size... how old are they? Are any of them siblings?

Don't ya just hate when a nice critter pic is ruined with those demonic eyes?!   The red eye thingy on your camera won't do any good with cats, dogs & deer, partly because of the number of cones in their eyes (which are color-sensitive & less in number than the cones in the human eye). Unlike humans, many critters also have cells behind their retinas that act like mirrors, to reflect light. (That's why their eyes look like they glow in the dark.)

I fix my pet "demon eye" pics with my Arcsoft PhotoStudio picture editor, & just fiddle with it till it comes out right!  If you happen to have Photoshop, here's a good tutorial on Fixing White Reflective Pet Eyes, that walks you through the steps.

They are awsome dogs Patty.  And they are all about the same size... smallest is 5lbs., the largest is 8 lbs.  Georgie is 5 yrs, Buddy is 11 mos., they tell me that the other two are 3 yrs old, but I'm thinking Roselle is older than that. She just acts older. Not as active, a little slower moving, etc. None of them are siblings, but Roselle and Raphael have always been together, so the rescue organization would only adopt them out together.  And Buddy has been with Georgie since we brought him home at 2 mos. of age.  At the end of the day when they all zonk out, they will zonk in pairs...Buddy & Georgie; Roselle & Raphael.

Wow, I guess I didn't realize they were such tiny dogs!  (Now that I take a closer look, I do know the dimensions of chain-link fencing & they look to be about the size of Yorkies!)  They obviously grow to full size pretty fast... makes me wonder if they're tiny like baby kitties when they're born.

I guess you're looking for a new house with a fenced back yard huh?

Barb those are some sweet dogs you have there. My youngest Granddaughter has one that is black and white she calls Moo. One spoiled brat. Tomorrow I will add a Basset to my collection his people had a human baby got rid of the dog (Ernie) and their cat. while I don't want any cats around I have a neighbor that would have given it a good home. Good luck with your canine family and bless you for rescuing.

Patty, we actually found a house just today... all brick, site built, on an acre, and in town (no septic or well to deal with) for less than we were looking to put together a manufactured home on a smaller lot, in a flood zone, with an above ground pool (the brick house has an in-ground pool). And best of all, already fenced all around! We are putting in an offer on it, hope it all goes well!  More than enough room for the twenty Paps if we so wanted (but won't, city ordinance limits us to 4 adult dogs).  The Paps are pretty small when they are born, but they grow about the same rate as any other dog. Buddy has been about the size he is now for about 2 months. He has totally changed colors too. When we first got him, he looked like he'd be more black and white.. now he's red and white with black markings, and the little blaze he had when we first got him is gone. Just disappeared.. lol

JV.. You can't really tell in the pic I posted, but Raphael is black and white other than the bit of brown on his face. He likes to bolt out the front door too. If we tell him to stay before opening the door, he will stay; but we forget because we aren't used to that. We had to go hunt him down 3 times today! I think we've learned our lesson there!

Paps are not only small and beautiful dogs, but they are rated the most intelligent of small breeds, and within the top 10 of all breeds for intelligence. This can be good and bad. While they are smart as a whip, they can also outsmart you. Raphael and Roselle has had some basic training and it shows. Raphael will not only play fetch (constantly if we would agree), but will put the ball in your hand rather than just dropping it at your feet.  I have seen Roselle actully give a chew toy to Buddy; walk right up to him with it in her mouth and give to him (him taking it right from her mouth).

They are amazing little dogs, and brighten our days... Don't know how I ever got through a day without a Pap's antics to brighten my day before I had one.
