What about growing a couple of each (pepper and tomatoes), in some pots Tammy.
Those would do well for you

Thanks for starting a new thread Penny. I like this topic.
Tammy, last year I did patio tomatoes and got a bunch; not too big, but enough to eat. I also did patio cukes and they were tiny but tasted good. I had 6 or 7 plain clay pots and ued bag soil. Worked great.

That was my thought too Sheri, buy some extra pots, and try them on your porch/deck, whatever you have Tammy, i dont think that you'll be disappointed.

I planted a patio blueberry plant that died from thirst. I gave a plant to my mother at the same time and her's has done wonderfully.

I am getting a little worried. I started some birdhouse gourd seeds in jiffy cups 2 weeks ago and not even one has broken ground. I read online that it can sometimes take up to 5 weeks, but, for every single one of them? Does that sound odd to anyone else for ALL of them to be taking so long?

No worries Sheri, i grew those a couple years back, and they did take a few weeks to sprout, and if i am not mistaken, it was all of them.
Give them a few more days and you should see somthing soon.

Unless they are really big heavy pots shadow and the vultures knock them over if they are on the patio. They got a couple of them that I had out there last fall.
I'll see what is in the shed and think about it. But I really want to focus on the landscaping. Even though I haven't done that good of a job so far. I really love flowers.

Actually the vultures are rather interesting to watch. I had three land on my deck last year. They were looking in at me while I was watching them. They seem more intelligent than I would have thought.

The past couple of years, i've started them inside, and i find that they do better for me, when they have a head start.
Hopefully this weekend, if not then the following week.

I'm hoping to get my peas out this weekend. It's a little too early for green beans. Maybe I'll try some Blue Lake beans anyway and see what happens.

I grew those last year Sheri and they are so good, I will be planting those again, as well as a few new kinds, including one called, Lazy Housewife, and Cranberry Beans.

have you had a lot of luck with gourds Penny? I had a few grow to full growth a few years ago but last year they sprouted and died. The vine didn't even form.

I'm still trying to find a spot for the garden but I think it's just gonna be some peppers and tomatoes. Adam would like me to plant strawberries, so I'm considering that as well...

I have a habit of killing things in pots and when the summer heat kicks up (almost all of August is 100*+) the roots all bake and dry out. So, no, I try not to do containers. The ground-plants are just harder to kill therefore better suited to me and my negligent gardening patterns. I was thinking of doing the strawberries in a container thing though. I think someone had a really cool setup on here... Need to find that link one of these days...

Are you buying the strawberry plants Sarah, or starting from seed?
