Separate the pieces and use it for a compost bin?

I would use it for lattice to grow peas or beans on.

is it 4 separate pieces? i could/would make a lattice with it, or use it to hold a bunch of individual clay pots, or turn it into a shoe rack or....

taking that little piece of wood off would be easy. Let Johnny do it though.
Whatever you decide, do not use it as a ladder and try climbing up it.

They look about four foot, maybe? Yes. I think peas would work. I'm not sure about clematis.

I would put two of them together so they were about 8 foot tall and then use them as a trellis. Maybe do it to both and then connect them with more lattice work and have an arch.

Those would make nice raised bed strawberry planters. A plant in each hole.

my pea supports are only about 3' tall

The peas are barely up so I haven't done anything with them yet. Once my hand is better I can better see how far it opens without removing the thing on the side.
