Read any good books lately?
« on: Aug 07, 2006, 06:28:01 PM »
I have just finished reading The Amityville Horror II. I read The Amityville Horror a few years ago and had never happened upon part two of the story. I wonder if there is a part 3?

This was a true story and I was amazed at all the Lutz's went through and  lived to tell their story. Anyone else read this one?

No I didn't read it, but I saw the movie. I also saw a special on tv about the actual murders. In the documentary, they said that most of the alledged happenings in that house were made up for monetary purposes.

The Amityville horror was a big bunch of BS.
The house still stands with NO activity/ haunting strange goings on.

I recently finished Marley and Me by John Grogan. What a wonderful book. Makes you laugh and cry and wat to pet your furbabies, or get a new puppy.  ;D A definite must read for all dog people.

Dianna loaned me Nora Robert's Santuary, but I never got around to reading it. You can get it back this weekend, Dianna. I saw the movie on tv the other night. Now that's my kinda reading, although the book is always better.

I have been reading Karin Slaughter's series. It starts off with "Blindsighted". Those books are cut-em-up thrillers and are a great read. Jim just ordered me two that I didn't have of the series.

I finished all of Karin Slaughter's books and cannot wait until the next one is published...

G-mom, if you like fictional books that are "whodunits" , you would like them...

Now I have started on James Patterson's books....

I've always enjoyed reading but had just about got to where magazines and newspapers were about the extent of it.  When I met Dianna she introduced me to the Prey series by John Sandford.  I was hooked and began reading during my lunch hour.  I finished that series and moved on to Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series.  I've read all of those except the very last one and so far I haven't found it on half.com.

I just started the Karin Slaughter series and I'm hooked on that one too.  It takes me quite some time to read one but I enjoy them.  I only get an opportunity to read about 45 minutes a day.

Dianna says I should read some of the William Bernhardt books.  We've got a couple of those but not the complete series.

We keep collecting books I'm going to have to build a library.

I've started the second of the Karin Slaughter books; "Kisscut".  I read the first one faster than I have read any book lately.  I just couldn't put it down.  As Dianna says, "she grabs you by the neck" and doesn't let go.

So what is everyone else reading these days?

I am reading "North and South" by John Jakes. The movie series were amazingly like the book; I was pleasantly surprised. After I read all of the books pertaining to the series, I want to watch the series again. We have them on dvd and they are very good...

I think that the best book I have ever read was "Gone With The Wind". I was however, sorely disappointed  with the follow up "Scarlet".

I loved "Gone With The Wind" and "Scarlett". Like you, though, I was a little bit disappointed in "Scarlett"...

I have finished "North and South" and am starting on "Love and War" tonight...

I've started the James Patterson series with the main character being Alex Cross. So far I have read the first 2, "Along Came A Spider" and "Kiss The Girls". I'm currently reading "Jack and Jill".

I actually bought a book the other day. The question is will I ever read it?

I gotta read that book Jim had written for Dianna first.

The book I bought was "The Witching Hour", by Anne Rice.

Anybody read it?

I can't believe I missed your post here, Aunt Bonnie!

I can't say that I have read "The Witching Hour", but can't say I haven't, either. I read so many books that I can't always remember the titles. Did you read it? Was it good?

I am currently reading "Blood Memory" by Greg Iles. It has really been a great book so far...

I will also read anything and everything - right now I'm reading Ruth Stout's "No Work Garden" regarding the extensive use of mulch, etc.
I'm also a sci-fi/fantasy addict :nutz: - my brother  in law got me hooked on a pulp series called "Deathlands" about a post-nuclear world in the future.  There's 67 books in the series, and I've got them all!  Got the latest one in the mail yesterday :Glee:

That "No Work Garden" sounds like a book that we could get a lot of use from. Isn't Ruth Stout the lady that wrote about lasagna gardening and such. I have read great accolades about her books.

I just got through reading "Not Without My Daughter" by Betty Mahmoody with William Hoffer. It is a true rendition of a mother's experience with different cultures in Iran. There has been a movie made of the book, so now I want to see it, too. The book is, usually, better than the movie, but I would love to compare. Sally Fields plays the mother.

I'm still reading the Alex Cross series by James Patterson.  I'm up to "Four Blind Mice".  I really enjoy reading them in order.  It's just like one continuous book that way.

James Patterson is way to scary for me.

I have read the patrica cromwell series.  I like it.

I've also read the grafton novels.

I love anne maccaffrey and am now reading her sons books on pern.

I can't remember the name of the author that writes the mysteries that the monk solves but I like them too.

Currently I'm reading the American Test Kitchen Cookbook.  I love that show and the book is done the same way.  What to do and use and why.  It's fantastic.

Actually James Patterson is more along the lines of the Patricia Cornwell books.  I've read all of the Kay Scarpeta series by her.

I've had to stop with the James Patterson because I need to get two of the last 3 books.  A lady I work with brought me the last one in the series but I'm going to wait until I read the two before that one to read it.  Dianna has already read it.

I'm reading Cruel Justice by William Bernhardt right now.  It's the second book that I have ready by him.  He has a "Justice" series but we only have the one book so I don't think I am going to get started collecting another series.

I don't get to read much, just during lunch here at work and sometimes right before falling asleep.

I thought James Patterson was the one that wrote from the killers point of view.  I have a hard time reading the ones that are from that point of view.

Patricia's were good but I read something that hit a sore spot about the abuse I suffered as a kid in one of the books and haven't read any since then.  You know how it goes.

Like most crime writers, he flips to that point of view from time to time but for the most part it is concentrated on Alex Cross, the main character.  John Sanford in his Prey series is known to begin the books from the killer perspective but then the rest is from the point of view of Lucas Davenport.

Anyway, I know exactly what you mean.

Karin Slaughter is another good writer.  Course this thread is quite old so I may have already said that in it.  :goofy:

Sorry I must have come in late.  Maybe I'll try a patterson and just skip the beginning.

I did read Red Dragon when I was in my twenties.  I had just gotten to quantico for small arms training and didn't have a thing to read.  A wm down the hall loaned it to me.  Scared the woohoo out of me.

BTW did I mention that I live 1 block from the Globe and Laurel resturant that is written about in Patricia Cromwell's Books.  I'm also just a few miles away from the FBI Academy.   I just thought I would grab a little reflected glory while I could lol.

It doesn't matter what I read. I am a bookworm. I think the reason I love the computer so much is because I love to read... :grinnnn:
