how do you remove one of those over the stove microwaves?  i have one that does not work and we can't figure out how to get that thing out of there.  i will put a regular range hood in its place for now.

It really depends on the style and model.  If you can tell me that, I can give you a better answer.

Ours had 2 lag bolts that went through the cabinet or shelf that is right above it and then into the top of the microwave.  You loosen those while the 2nd person holds the front of the microwave.  The back is sitting on a tab that is attached to the wall, so you basically tilt the front down and lift the back off the tabs.

I've read of others that have a release mechanism that you have to unlock.  That's why I asked for the model number and brand.

i'll get you that tomorrow.  i'm thinking the lag bolts.  i can see the bracket in back where mine sits.

If there is a cabinet above it, take a look there and you will probably see the top of the bolts.

If you don't put another microwave up you may need to put up a heat shield on the wall that will now be exposed.  With the microwave there you didn't need one but without it you probably will.
