Arbor Day Surveys
« on: Aug 29, 2010, 09:02:58 AM »
Is anyone else getting these surveys?  They look like just another way to ask for donations to me.  What do you think?

I got one and thought the same thing.  Looks like they wanted $10 minimum.  Sorry, but mine went in the trash.

Is it from the Arbor Day Foundation?  I've never known them to direct mail for donations.  Guess times are harder than I thought.  I know they have really cute cards you can order online.  Like

“What’s Sappening!”

Inside Message:

I planted a tree for you just so I could say that. In your honor, a tree has been planted in a National Forest.

Occasion: Just Because

Most of the money from the card sales goes into planting trees.

It always bothers me when places send out bulk mailings asking for money.  I wonder what the percentage of income from those mailings is because it costs money to send out those bulk mailings.

Off on a tangent here, but I subscribe to Birds and Blooms magazines and love it.  But I get a statement from them at least once a week with a special offer asking me to reorder early.  I have reordered early before but I still continue to get those weekly mailings.  I finally emailed them and asked about it and was sent an email saying subscriptions are down and so on and so on.  I think if they would save the money on the mailings they'd be better off.

I get Birds and Blooms too, Sheri, and get all of those mailings also.  It's frustrating.

Direct Mail gets about a 4% response according to the statistics I've read.

It's not dumb if you want the trees.  I would do it if I were ready for trees this year but I'm not.

I know of 3 different trees that are all called golden chain trees.  Do you know which ones you ordered?  One is like 6 to 10 feet tall, one is like 20 feet tall and one is huge.

That's true you could get any kind.  I was looking at golden chain last year I think.  I got seed from several different people and all the seeds are different.  That's when I started researching things.  I wanted the small one to camoflouage the electric pole in the center of my front yard.
