Button Fern , house plant.

Any one else here raise button fern plant?  Some one gave me 3 small twigs an look at it now.. Wonder what the things hanging out are for?
Any one know ?
Never seen the likes of it .

As in if you put it in a bigger pot those things will make the fern bigger.
