Royal Red Hydranga
« on: Jun 06, 2011, 07:11:00 AM »
I know that you can change the color of a hydranga from blue to pink but how do I get it to red.  The one I bought is suppose to be red.  Does anyone know how to deal with this plant?

Hmm, that sounds really pretty....my guess would be to change to phosphorus level in your plant, thats what changes the color in the first place......a good fertilizer would probably work with phosphorus, usually the middle number on the box.

Acidic soils are bluer. If you want redder sweeten the soil with lime. It won't work for the current crop of flowers but it should for next years and beyond.
