Imagine my suprise when I looked out the backdoor and saw a fox. I'd never seen one live before. I was wondering if Shadow my cat would be ok. He was fine sleeping on the deck not bothered by the fox at all.

I would be worried that the fox would be rabid, Tammy, and bring my pet in to make sure of no trouble...

You make a good point Dianna. We've had 4 reports of rabid 'coons within a mile of me this year. I am always watchful.

Shadow came in for breakfast a normal part of his routine. But if I try and keep him in the house when he doesn't want to be here he raises the roof. Your right rabies would be a very, very bad thing.

A very hungry fox can mess with your cat but most of the time they are after smaller rodents and fruit.
Yes fruit. Every year I had foxes climbing my persimmon tree to snack on not-quite-people-ripe persimmons. And they went for my apricots too. They didn't mess with my citrus. Yes, they can climb trees.

wow I don't want him on my deck. I don't want him in my plum tree either. That's the only one that has fruit on it.

i did not know they could climb trees, but that doesn't surprise me. after all, their babies are called kits not pups... even though they are technically in the canine group

They sure are pretty animals with their long bushy tails. I often see them at night.
