Monitor help??
« on: Oct 09, 2011, 07:16:37 PM »
I had some problems with my monitor  (on my desktop) a couple weeks ago, but managed to get it to come back on, though I'm not sure how. Then I just left it on (and the computer until after the last of my bills were paid. I then turned it off and haven't been able to get it to come back on.
If I turn off the monitor, then turn it back on, it will flash the screen at me real quick but the go back off.

My question is how to I determine if it's the monitor or the video card without purchasing a either? I can't afford to purchase one if I don't need it. Heck, I can't afford to purchase one if I DO need it.

Dear Lord, On this day, please wrap your arm around my shoulder and keep your hand over my mouth.  Amen

Well it looks like it might just be the cord/connection. I totally unscrewed it from the back of the monitor and screwed it back in and it came on. I probably have an extra one around here -- packed up.

If you don't, let me know, I might. I was going to say cord. Or borrow one to try first. Maybe from krys?

I have an older Dell monitor that shuts down almost immediately if there is no video signal.  If it's just the cable, that's an easy fix.  You can check if it's the monitor by plugging it into another computer, even your laptop.
