i figured i'd show y'all how i presented the blanket to kate. it just "came together" as it were.
i had a "thirty-one" brand tote bag she wanted. it is more of an organizer than actual tote bag, but i have one i use for crocheting. so here you go. lyla anne's "penguin flower".

today, i made a take off of a flower i saw on facebook. i made it for my best friend. here are front and back photos, with, and without a quarter for size comparison.
front
back
front and back w/quarter.
for an idea of the number of stitches, each coiled petal in the center has 14 stitches in it, and each of the 4 large back petals have 16 plus the picot at the top, then a single in each stitch with 5 in the picot.

that is very cute in a variegated yarn. What are you thinking of doing with them? Besides making one for a friend that is. It could make a cute border on a baby sweater. Or receiving blanket.

tammy, they are too intricate (too many steps) to make for a border on anything. i'd go nuts! but i was thinking they'd be nice on a headband or something like that. or for a collar. or maybe a half flower for a collar edging. we'll see. mostly i wanted to know i could do it!

Those sound like wonderful ideas. And I so understand the need to know I can do something. Crafters seem to like to challenge themselves.

Cute! It's not meant to be a toy so much, is it?

what a great mobile! Can you make them in miniature and have several of them together like an underwater scene?

tina, it really is "toy" safe. i made the tentacles short enough. but if they want to hang it they can.
tammy, i could, if i were so inclined, although, i probably wouldn't be

great minds. My project for my Sunday School class this week is to make jelly fish out of styrofoam balls and pipe cleaners.

Linda, the children's librarian had them make them out of coffee filters and ribbons.

I like Linda's idea. We'll do this again sometime and I'll use the ribbons instead of pipe cleaners.

Sheri, somewhere I have a photo of the jellyfish Linda did, as well as the "instruction" sheet for the kids, which is a cute little rhyme kind of thing.
speaking of jellyfish. I finished Lyla's. So here is a photo of Lyla's and Zoe's side by side. They weren't hanging high enough for them to have the tentacles hanging free. the hanger can be either cut off or stuffed inside to make them "play friendly" and the tentacles are tied on with a hard knot.
