Does anybody know what this is?  It's sitting with a few others like it at the store, but as usual, the name on it is something corny, like "Impressive Beauty" or something stupid like that... no care instructions, no clue whether or not it's an annual or perinneal, etc. :rolleyes1:

I love it, but am NOT gunna spend $10 on something that's only gunna flower for 2 weeks & then die forever!

Here's a close-up of the flower

It's NOT a Hiacinth or a Petunia... I know what those leaves look like.

(Do they really expect to sell plants when they can't even bother to tell you what they are?) :tickedoff:

Thanx.  I looked it up...

Tropical evergreen vine with clusters of glowing, trumpet like, 2-4 in. flowers appearing among large glossy dark green leaves. Not winter hardy. Needs heat to bloom. Sun

I wonder if it can be brought indoors for the winter.  I really like it!

Treat mandevilla vines as annuals in northerly climes. Alternatively, plant mandevilla vines in containers, so that they can be brought inside before the frost.

Prune them back so that only about 6" of growth remains, and store them in a cool nook in your cellar (about 55 degrees). Water your mandevilla vines very sparingly during this period.

Return the mandevilla vines to your yard when good weather returns.

I think I'll buy it tomorrow!

OOPS!  Where will I put it?! My arbor is full & I don't have a cellar!

Sorry Jim, I didn't even see the link you posted! (That's what I get for pretending I can speed read!) While I was busy running all over the Web, your post sat here with this info hidden in it...

To assist plant survival during the winter, you may wish to place mulch over the areas in question or plant the flowers in an area away from walls or cement. Additionally, digging up bulbs and roots to overwinter indoors may be preferrable to keeping them in the ground.

I'm thinking that since I was able to winter over a Lisianthus with layers of rugs heaped on top of it, I can probably keep this thing alive too!

And I think my climbing rose is outta here.  It's too high maintenance & the roses aren't good for arrangements anyway.
This "Brazilian Jasmine" is LOTS prettier!

Oh Peggy... You ready for another rose bush?   :Whis:

Patty, I've never been able to overwinter a Mandevilla in the ground here, :Crybaby: but it gets quite a bit colder here than where you are. They are such awesome plants and I've always loved the pink ones better than the white.  ;)

Bonnie, I was wrong about the price... I could have sworn that the price I'd seen on it them Tuesday was $10 but when I went back to buy it the next day, the sign said $16.99! After looking around, I found more Mandevillas in smaller pots, selling for 2/$9.00 so I got two of them! (I think I still beat ya!) :wink5:

They transplanted beautifully & didn't seem to shock at all. I don't know if the alfalfa pellets I put in the hole had anything to do with that, but they took off & started growing immediately! :Yahoo:

The day I put them in, those climbing vines were just barely even with the first crossbar on the trellis, & this is how far they'd gone in just 2 days.

Ten minutes ago (4 days later), they've gone this far!

They're either very fast growers by nature, or they love that alfalfa!
I'm SOOO loving my Mandevilla! :Glee:

I had one last year Patty and had full intentions of brining it in, i didnt in time and a frost got it, it wasnt pretty after that, so if you hear of any cooler weather coming, you might want to get it inside if you plan on keeping it.
Good luck~~!
