Topic: What's for dinner 11

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, I am sure we are all going to have some great food stories! 

[Tonya]

Sarah- Triss is right- Hamhock is basically the leftover meat/bone that gets cut off of a bone in ham. Awesome for flavoring!

[duh]

I think today I'll make Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes with gravy and that's about it.  Well I do have some homemade pumpkin pie left for dessert.

I know I'm crazy for even posting it.  I just feel alittle silly today.

Yummmm. Sounds good Duh. Think I'll do the same!

I might just bake something today. I haven't quite decided. But not doing the traditional turkey dinner. I will be very thankful for what I do have though.

I will post my dinner menu: a lovely warm Turkey fresh from the oven with crispy skin, still steaming mashed potatoes seasoned lightly with pepper and real butter smothered in a rich creamy homemade turkey gravy.  Turkey stuffing with giblets and celery, Never Enough Green bean casserole with mushrooms, bacon, Velveeta, and, of course, French Fried Onion delicately gracing the top, Sweet Potato Casserole freshly made with real non-canned potatoes, sweetened to perfection and topped with a delicious pecan-strusel topping.  Fresh Pumpernickel bread smothered in real butter (definitely being dipped into aforementioned gravy).  Nasty cranberry sauce from a can.  Deviled Eggs featuring bacon and cheese.  A lovely pumpkin pie made solely by a 7 year old, peanut clusters made solely by a 4 year old, and Pecan Pie on a shortbread crust in bar form.

I love cranberries, even nasty from a can. I want some puimpkin pie and peanut clusters. I have some fresh fudge to trade.

Wow Landofoz you really turned up the volume.  That sounds like a wonderful meal.  I only made about half the amount of things that you did and I'm stuffed.  I haven't even made room for the pumpkin pie yet.

My plate. I am sooo stuffed! Corn, Mashed potatoes, Turkey, dressing, collards, sweet potato casserole(I guess that would be what I'd call it), Homemade cranberry sauce(made by Doug  ), homemade giblet gravy, and devilled eggs.

We had a non traditional dinner, but still yummy. All the family that came brought something and it was all toooo goood.

Oh my! Could you pass me a piece of each cheesecake. YUMMM!! We never eat dessert, so I never make it. The closest thing is the sweet potato casserole.

You're on!  I was going to make fudge then thought we'd be eating too much stuff as it was!

pecan carmel cheese cake I'm hooked.  That sounds marvelous.

And I'm going to have to make some deviled eggs.  I love them.

Today I'm going over to a friends.  We're going to merge our two small beef roasts and see what we come up with.  It should be fun.

Toscana Soup for dinner tonight with leftover Pumpernickle bread.  Mmmmm.  My favorite soup.

Tonight is lemon chicken and cabbage/ramen salad.

[duh]

I need to get things together I really do.  Maybe I'll pull out the big pot and get the turkey carkus in there to simmer.  Definitely want more turkey stock.

We are all eating individual things around here lately. I am putting effort into food easy for John to eat and no one else is too interested. Jonni scrounges for her needs out of a plethora of easy to fix stuff and eats a lot with friends. Ted doesn't eat much and relies on ensure for most of his needs. I also scrounge or cook a large batch and eat on it for several days.
Although I love coming in here and getting ideas.

Tonight will be beef stroganoff, as I have about a cup of sour cream in my fridge that needs to be used up. If I'm feeling creative, I may whip up some type of crusty bread to go with it. A nice green salad on the side. 

I like coming here for ideas, too.

Leftovers here.  We had a bunch and no room in the fridge for anything else.  Made a great dent in it all and what is left will be lunches for me this week.

DiGiornio's pepperoni pizza here, with a side salad. Sure was good, too...

We had pinto beans cooked with a hamhock last night. Or should I say Doug did- I was gone getting Summer. Was gonna fix cornbread and collards to go with it, but had a flat and didn't get home until after 9pm. Oh, well- we will have pork roast (shredded to make tacos) and refried beans tonight.

Tonight is pork tenderloin, and some brown rice and a salad.

Too jump on the pork roast/loin bandwagon: we had mexican shredded pork loin last night on top of a huge pile of steaming lime cilantro rice.  Today, the leftovers are getting mixed up and made into Pork Enchiladas.  I just need to remember to make the tortilla dough after Adam goes back to work after lunch.
