I am sloooowly working through planting the garden. I planted two full beds of tomatoes so far...I now need to surround them with carrots and radishes. The borage is doing awesome.

Mike filled the new beds out front and I picked up several different types of pumpkins...I'm hoping a few get big enough to hollow out and put the monkey in for pictures. :)

How long does it take for carrots.  I planted carrots months ago when I planted lettuce.  I've already eaten a bunch of lettuce and the carrot tops are maybe 1 inch tall.

Carrots take all year...I harvest either in the fall, or top with straw and let them hang out in the beds during the winter and pull when I need them.

Right now it is a very soggy heaven.  It started raining last night and forgot to stop.  So no gardening for me today.

Oh dear.  What should I do in this heat then?

I only plant green or red bell peppers.  It seems it takes them forever to germinate.

I started a bunch of different peppers inside back in February, including some hot ones that while i dont know if i am brave enough to try them, they'll be good for trading in the Fall.

My best friend if from Mexico City and my other best friend is from Lima, Peru and they eat the ones that make their upper lip sweat.  I tried a bite one time and it literally took my breath.  I don't see how they do it.

I have some Bhut Jolokia and Naga Jolokia.....they are number 1 and 2, as to the hottest peppers in the world.....they are almost the same pepper, but a little different.

I'm sorry...I should have been more clear. I plant them now, and let them grow all summer. Then, I either harvest in the fall, or leave them in the beds and pull as needed. You did fine!

Should I cover the carrots in the heat?

I would Sheri, a thin layer wouldnt hurt them, and considering the heat that you get there, might be a good idea.

I can cover them with compost.  Just hope I don't forget and mow them down or worse.
