If the squirrels don't the birds might.

My squirrels wait for the plums...and take them the day they are ripe...which is usually the day before I thought.

Tammy, our plums are in too.  We've gotten a few of them but what the Mexicans next door don't steal the deer eat.

You think netting would help with the mexicans? :giggle:

If I lived next door, your plums might be in jeopardy. :licklips: I love green plums, though. I wouldn't wait until they turned red. The net wouldn't help keep me out of them... :wink5:

I'd think green plums would give you a stomach ache.  Not sure why I think that since green tomatoes don't.

Green tomatoes aren't ready to pick. With green plums, all I would need is a salt shaker... :grinnnn:

I cannot picture how anyone would eat fried green tomatoes... ::)

Jennifer, you and Scott and Aunt Bonnie can eat my share of the green tomatoes. I will stick with green plums...

It more depends on the type of plum, Tammy. If it is a red skinned plum then it may be. But if it is a purple or black plum then not.

I go by feel, Tammy...when it's firm but has a bit of give...nnot rock hard. It should also come off the tree easily.

I haven't tried green tomatoes but it's on my "list".

I'll have to fight through the spiders and get out the ladder.  The plum is pretty close to the top of the tree.  Which didn't get pruned since I was on crutches last fall.

We got a few plums but the Mexicans next door got most of them again.  I think next year we're going to put traps around the trees - not really because we'd probably snare a skunk or something worse..  Some of the plums were moldy.

My garden is doing well.  I'm getting squash but the squash bugs are back.  There's got to be a way to get the jump on those creatures next year.  The borage is going to flower.  Is that a good thing?  The cukes are the sweetest ever.  I'm getting red potatoes and green beans.  I never got more than a handful of green peas though.  I planted 2 rows and the tallest plant was only about 12 inches tall.  Too hot?  too cold?  too dry? too wet?  No idea.

My blue borage is flowering. The bees love it! And that only means.... seeds! Sweet (veggie) peas like very cool weather. Up here in Z5 we plant as soon as the soil can be worked in spring. Sometimes that means march.

PS welcome back Sheri!

My tomatoes are a couple weeks off from being ready, my cukes are a little longer then that date, peppers are slow and steady, but the beans and peas are doing well, the girls go out and pick some each day.
